To investigate effects of soft, sand and hard surfaces on functional ability and falls in elderly with or without history of multiple falls.

Detailed Description:
  • To compare effects of exercise training on hard, soft and sand surfaces in elderly without history of fall during 12 month prior to participate in the study
  • To compare effects of exercise training on hard, soft and sand surfaces in elderly with history of single fall during 12 month prior to participate in the study
  • To compare effects of exercise training on hard, soft and sand surfaces in elderly with history of multiple falls during 12 month prior to participate in the study
  • To compare the changes of functional ability and risk of fall after exercise training on hard surface among elderly with no fall, single fall and multiple falls during 12 month prior to participate in the study
  • To compare the changes of functional ability and risk of fall after exercise training on soft surface among elderly with no fall, single fall and multiple falls during 12 month prior to participate in the study
  • To compare the changes of functional ability and risk of fall after exercise training on sand surface among elderly with no fall, single fall and multiple falls during 12 month prior to participate in the study

Arm Intervention/treatment
Sham Comparator: Firm surface group
Subject will participate in exercise training on a firm surface for 50 min/session, 3 days/week for 6 weeks in total.
Other: Physical training on hard, sand and soft surfaces
Experimental: Sand surface group
Subject will participate in exercise training on a sand surface for 50 min/session, 3 days/week for 6 weeks in total.
Other: Physical training on hard, sand and soft surfaces
Active Comparator: Soft surface group
Subject will participate in exercise training on a soft surface for 50 min/session, 3 days/week for 6 weeks in total.
Other: Physical training on hard, sand and soft surfaces



Primary Outcome Measures :
  1. 10-meter walk test (10MWT) [ Time Frame: 3 weeks ]

Inclusion Criteria:

  • age at least 60 yr old
  • fall

Exclusion Criteria:

  • having pain (VAS >5)
