Information provided by: Maastricht University Medical Center
ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00604929
  Purpose

The present proposal is designed to examine the effect of carbohydrate and protein co-ingestion on muscle protein synthesis during endurance type exercise activities. We hypothesize that muscle protein synthesis is higher when protein is co-ingested during exercise.

Condition Intervention
Healthy
Dietary Supplement: carbohydrate and protein

Study Type: Interventional
Study Design: Basic Science, Randomized, Double Blind (Subject, Investigator), Placebo Control, Crossover Assignment
Official Title: The Effect of Carbohydrate and Protein Intake on Muscle Protein Synthesis During Endurance Exercise

Further study details as provided by Maastricht University Medical Center:

Primary Outcome Measures:
  • Differences in muscle protein synthesis rates between carbohydrate and carbohydrate + protein. [ Time Frame: 1 day ] [ Designated as safety issue: No ]

Secondary Outcome Measures:
  • Difference in whole-body protein synthesis and breakdown between carbohydrate and carbohydrate plus protein. [ Time Frame: 1 day ] [ Designated as safety issue: No ]
